As My Chemical Romance regretfully announce their withdrawl from the upcoming Australian Soundwave Festival, Jimmy Eat World have come to the rescue, postponing their current recording stint to take Romance’s place.
My Chemical Romance’s lead singer, Gerard Way, has been experiencing severe vocal problems and is under doctor’s advisement to forgo the tour in order to receive treatment for his throat and vocal chords and protect their long-term use.
“We are really sorry that we’ve had to cancel this tour, and apologise for any inconvenience it has caused,” says Way. “The last thing we ever want to do is cancel shows, but we’ll be back to Australia to make it up to the fans as soon as possible.”
For some Soundwave goers, MCR’s departure from the bill is a blessing in disguise, making way for alt-rock legends Jimmy Eat World, who have long held the position of most requested band to take part in the popular festival.
Jimmy Eat World will also be joining the already-massive sideshow of Glassjaw, Sunny Day Real Estate, Motion City Soundtrack and RX Bandits, playing at Sydney’s UNSW Roundhouse on Tuesday February 23 (licensed all-ages) and Melbourne’s Palace Theatre on Thursday February 25 (18+).
The Soundwave festival kicks off next week in Brisbane on Saturday February 20, before touring all around the country. For more information head to www.soundwavefestival.com
