In Every Avenue’s recent album, Picture Perfect, they hook you in with the same catchy tunes, not really changing their sound. Now, some might say this is a good thing or see it as the downfall of the band. To each its own. The album has a pop vibe with some alternative waves in specific tracks. It’s not a bad album, but it wouldn’t be up there in the tops either. For the hardcore Every Avenue fans, though, it sure was what they were waiting for all year.
The cd starts off with “For Always, Forever”, which is what I was saying earlier about the catchy beats. It’s typical material for this type of band and although it may not seem like an outstanding song, it was a decent choice to start off the record. Usually, the opener, closer, and middle song are the main tracks to listen to to determine the overall mood of the album. The other songs are to develop any story unfolding. The next two songs, though, are ones to take notice. “Mindset” is possibly the catchiest song on there. It sounds like most pop songs you’ve heard on the radio, but will seriously get stuck in your head for a whole day. “Tell Me I’m a Wreck” is my favorite in the record. Along with a couple others, it could be one of the contenders to be the next single by the band.
The middle song for Picture Perfect is “Happy the Hard Way.” It’s the softest song in the album, with a nice piano intro that continues through the track and might be one of the best songs, lyrically, by the band, but that, of course, is my own opinion. Going through the rest of the tracks, two other songs worth mentioning are “Finish What You Started” and “The Story Left Untold”. The closer for Picture Perfect is “Clumsy Little Heart”. Again, this is a typical song for Every Avenue. It’s definitely not the best way to end this record, but it certainly wasn’t the worst. All in all, Picture Perfect, was far from perfect but was still decent.
