Please introduce yourself and what you do in the band.
I’m Ben and I play guitar and sing in Life On High
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?
Upbeat, intelligent music with lyrics that have real feeling and thought in them. We’re not trying to be like every other techno-lap-top band out there right now.
How did everyone in the band end up meeting?
Luca and I met through old bands that we had been, I’ve known Ryan since we were kids and Dave was in another band at the time that ended up breaking up. We all quickly jumped at the chance to bring him in because it felt right and he completed the group.
Who does most of the writing in the band? What is your process when writing songs?
We write musically as a band and then I go back with an acoustic guitar and put lyrics to it
How do you think outlets like MySpace, Facebook, twitter and YouTube are helping (or hurting) bands today?
I think we’re in a new age for bands in which we have the ability to reach massive amounts of people without the backing of a label or deep pockets and I think it’s a great thing. Even huge bands like radio head have used this to their advantage when they posted there newest full length for free and asked for free donations!
You recently had a song for download on Purevolume, more and more bands today are releasing the “free-p.” What do you think about the “free-p”?
Giving out your music for free is awesome because it allows everyone to at least give it a listen. At this point, it’s not about making money, we just want to reach as many kids as possible!
When can fans expect either an EP or full length?
We’ll be releasing a song a month until December/January in which we plan on releasing a 6-7 song EP
What are some of the toughest challenges for being an unsigned band?
Getting money to record and tour, you can get our songs on itunes and merch @ lifeonhigh.bigcartel.com … hint hint :]
I hear there are plans for an upcoming tour, what are some of the things you do to prepare for time out on the road?
Getting a great show together, I’ve always loved bands that give you an experience or make you feel a certain way when you go see them and I’d like to do that for kids who come out to see us.
Is there anything else you would like to add to your fans and the readers at For The Sound?
Thanks for supporting us and Keep checking myspace.com/lifeonhighrock for new songs, tour dates, video blogs because we update constantly, love talking to you and have some great things in the works!
